Happy 1 year Chicago!!!

I cannot believe that it has already been a year since we first arrived in our uhaul truck, ready to live our dream of being Chicagoens. On one hand, it’s really hard to remember what life was like before we moved here. It seems as if we have been living this lifestyle forever. But when I think back 12 months ago, and that feeling of “wow, we are actually doing this!” it seems like only yesterday. There was a moment, crossing a bridge on the way into the city that I thought “what in the world are we doing?” But the moment we stood in our apartment, surrounded by boxes and a cat who was wondering where in the world she was….I knew, looking at The Husband and the happiness on his face, we had made the right decision.

It is so nice to be so happy with our city lifestyle. I know not many people understand our love for it, but it really fits The Husband and I. While walking on the lakefront trail yesterday (yes with my Starbucks in hand because it was ooh soo cold, brrr!), I thought about how The Husband and I have seemed to come into our own in the last year. Not that we have never been ourselves until now, but there was always a missing piece, something that we continued to look and strive towards. And with moving to Chicago, it’s as if we have found it. We do so much in the city; hockey games, theatre, concerts, baseball games, shopping, trying new restaurants, blues clubs, ….well you get the picture. The Husband loves working from home, I have been lucky to find a terrific company in The Loop to work for, we still love the apartment and our neighborhood; everything really has come together.

Tonight, we are going out to a celebratory dinner at Grand Lux Cafe, because that is where we ate lunch that first day after unloading the moving truck. We will raise our glasses to our good fortune, to Chicago, and most of all…to ourselves for making it happen!!

Time Flies!

I cannot believe that it is already November!!  The last few months have flown by!!  I feel like things are starting to settle, from the new city, new home, new job, etc and now maybe I can finally focus on this site a little more.  I will be attempting to make more posts (hopefully weekly!)  So let’s see what all there is to chat about…

Official Illinois Driver

Funny, I never thought I would spend my Monday studying to take a written driver’s test. But that is exactly what I did yesterday. Apparently in Illinois you must take a written test before you can get a license even if you already have one. So I found myself cramming and taking practice tests just like I had done 19 years ago. Geeze, have I really been driving for 19 years? It sure doesn’t feel that long. I still remember taking my first written test to get my Learner’s permit. It was the day after my birthday and my mom, my granny, and my aunt took me. I remember taking the test on the computer and according to my granny, I stomped my foot slightly each time I got a question wrong, which apparently wasn’t too often since I passed and drive us all home. I wonder if I stomped my foot slightly when yesterday’s clerk was grading my test and marked my one question wrong?

Fun Times in the City!

It’s been a busy few days!!  It started with the the dying of the river to a neon green color for St. Patrick’s Day and ended tonight with The Black Keys concert at the United Center.  There was a several trips to Lincoln Park and the Lakefront in between!!

Chicago on St. Patrick;s Day was INSANE!! There were people EVERYWHERE!!  Especially at the riverfront for the dying of the river! After the event we skipped the parade and headed up to N. Clark to Galway Arms and had some delish Irish fare and a couple of Irish drinks.  N. Clark was crazy too!  Afterwards we headed to the park and hung out for a while and then onto the lakefront for some sun. Our neighborhood was crazy all day and well into the night (early morning hours)!  But the Chicago crowd did not seem to be obnoxious and seemed to be all about drinking enjoying themselves (and drinking)!!

Sunday was a wonderful day of relaxation!  The Husband and I grabbed a blanket and a couple of sandwiches and headed to Lincoln Park.  We had a picnic and just relaxed for the afternoon.  This really made us feel like Chicagoans!!

Tonight we had a blast watching the Arctic Monkeys and The Black Keys!  This was a kick off to The Husband’s birthday celebration!  It felt weird to finally be using the tickets that I had bought so long ago (with hopes that we would actually move to Chicago so we could use them),

This is a wonderful start to all the fun times that are sure to be had in the city!

Friday Night in The City

The evening started well, I got an email asking for a second interview with the fabulously awesome organization I interviewed with on Monday!!  Woohoo!! Next week is stacking up to be a pretty good week!! So now time to decide what to eat and where tonight.  We were going to check out RA Sushi, but I want to wait until happy hour so that we can try several of there specials without sipping into our savings!  So The Husband and I both grab our iPhones and spend the next thirty minutes trying to decide somewhere to go.  I guess that is a problem living where we live, there are tons of restaurants and choices. especially when you are hungry!

So we decided on 25º a lil’ bar on N Clark.  Not a lot of selection on the menu but they have some wonderful burgers!!  Very juicy!!  Went well with my Samual Adams!  I am not usually a beer girl, but I am trying to prep my taste buds for tomorrow!! 😉  This bar was pretty cool, not too loud when we first got there but it quickly got packed and pretty loud.  Apparently this city is all about its bars, drinks, and fun especially during March Madness!

So after enjoying our hamburgers, we headed back to find Sprinkles, a little cupcake shop off of State Street that I had read about.  But first we had some great entertainment on the walk there! Still wondering if the girl in the wedge heels ever made it to her destination or did she end up in the middle of State and one of its various cross streets or possible on the front of a bus or out of control taxi since she did not bother to look before crossing any of the streets we witnessed her cross! But alas, as much as we wanted to continue to watch the accident waiting to happen and giggle each time she narrowly missed hitting a sign or pole, Sprinkles was calling our names!  Icing on the cupcake: Free cupcakes tonight thanked to a promotion for the store’s new extended ours!  Score!!  (The cupcakes were very good and surprisingly fresh considering the time of night we got them.  I still must say that our fave is Molly’s on N Clark, you just can’t beat them!! But Sprinkles is definitely moving up my Yummm List!)
