Winter

First, let me start this post off by saying I love Winter and I love the snow, cold weather, and all the bundling up that comes with it. And I actually love that I am finally feeling the winter blues after MANY years of not having a true winter (thanks Southern states). But I am starting to feel those blues creeping up on me…. You know, the dreaming of sunny warm lake breezes, laying on blankets in the park, sandals…..awe those pretty little shoes that show your painted toes…. Of course, in the midst of winter, I really need a pedicure, but that’s another story!

Winter, true winter, is hard. Its cold, its windy, and its COLD AND WINDY! But it also snows and this makes me very happy 🙂 Like this morning, we awoke to about four inches of snow….nice! No it wasn’t the easiest thing to walk around in, but if you live in the north, it’s just something you do. I guess I am still like a kid when it comes to snow. Maybe I will hate it after living with it for a few years. Maybe, but I highly doubt it. See, the snow and the cold winter weather means something. It means that everything has went to sleep for a few months. It gives us all a little time to “sleep” before awakening. And I think both nature and humans need this. We need more downtime, a little time to recuperate from the wide open summer vacations, fall festivities, and holiday craziness. Winter gives us time to relax and unwind before it all starts again. Winter is our time out, our siesta. And then it leads us into marvalous spring. When everything comes alive and people begin to peek their heads out of their scarves and hoodies. I cannot wait to be able to sit in the sun on our rooftop or on a blanket in LP and watch the world come alive again. Maybe I will paint my toenails this weekend….just in case it gets here sooner rather than later….

Happy Love Day!

Look at me….two weeks in a row!!

Happy Valentine’s Day dear readers! I hope everyone is having a wonderful love day, even if you are not in a relationship. Some people forget that you don’t have to have a date, significant other, or spouse to enjoy this day. Focus on the love aspect, and celebrate with those that you love, whether it is family, friends, neighbors, the cat, etc. And if you don’t love anyone, then love yourself and celebrate by treating yourself to a fabulous dinner, a divine glass of wine, or a decadent dessert. Because you must love yourself before you can truly love anyone else! I passed this suggestion on to a sales clerk at a store yesterday when she said (rather glumly) that she was staying home today since she didn’t have a boyfriend. I reminded her that she might meet someone fabulous or at least have a few laughs if she went out and treated herself. She seemed to perk up at the thought so hopefully she will be out on the town tonight!

I cannot believe that this is my 15th Valentine’s Day with The Husband…time really does fly when you are having fun! Our first Valentine’s date is still one of my favorite memories. From the “lost” wallet all the way to the little blue bubble gum machine ring that I wore for months after that night (which I still have and cherish almost as much as my wedding ring), it still makes me smile to think of all the little details of that night. When I look around me at the world and various relationships, it makes me really appreciate what I have with The Husband. I know that there are many single people (and even some not so single people) who wish they had the type of relationship that The Husband and I have, and I plan on not taking it for granted!

So, go be good to yourselves, the ones you love, the little four legged friends running around the house, and enjoy today!

Happy 2013!! (Yes, I realize I am a month late…)

So yeah, it’s been a while….
But one of my New Year’s resolutions (which I just completed February 2nd 😉 is to post weekly and hopefully there will be a new post each Friday! Yeah I know, you’ve heard this before, but really I will try much harder in 2013 to spend more time on this fabulous website, talking about all the fabulously random things in my head and in our lives!

So to catch you up to speed, I have now been at The Job for almost 7 months. I still like it and things are still going well, so really nothing to report there. Other than I love finally having a job that pays well, gives me lots of PTO, and knows that at 5:01pm I am not thinking about work at all! As a social worker in a past life, this last one is HUGE!!!

In other news, The Husband and I completed our first 5k in December….yes, you read that right, I COMPLETED A 5K!!! Granted I did not run the entire thing, but hey, I finished it!! We are both registered for a St. Patty’s Day 5k in March, so we are still running. I am training daily, trying to increase my endurance so that hopefully soon I can say I ran a WHOLE 5k! Yesterday was a huge milestone for me. I ran over a mile without taking a break to walk!! This was a huge accomplishment for me!! I really needed it after this past weekend when I thought I would try out the scales at Bed Bath & Beyond to see which set we wanted to purchase. Well after trying out 3 different ones (because I couldn’t believe the first one, the second one must be off, and the third one was just plain lying, the bastard) I left the store with no scales but new tears in my eyes. Really?!?!? And I thought I had been doing so good…. But when I ran that mile yesterday nonstop, I realized I have been doing so good! No, the numbers may not be showing it right now, but when have I ever been able to run a whole mile?? When have I been able to run PERIOD, let alone several times a week, and in a 5k?!?! This is when I decided that I needed to focus on how I am feeling and not so much on the numbers. Don’t get me wrong, I want those numbers to get lost too, but if I am feeling good and feeling accomplished, I refused to let that little number on that little machine deter me.

So I will continue on this journey….who’s with me?

Election 2012

Wow, this election stuff got really ugly this time around.  I lost several Facebook “friends” along the way (though I am not really sure I would classify them as friends anyhow…) and I saw new sides to people that I never would have believed possible.  I am very proud that my President was re-elected and it was a lot of fun celebrating downtown with like-minded thinkers as opposed to the conservative thinkers we have encountered for too many years. Now that it is all over, I have tried to refrain from discussing the outcome too much with people from the other side because I know that there is no use in pointing out that we all won.  Yes, I said that correctly.  WE ALL WON.  When the party that promotes equality, human rights, and the basic bettering of people’s lives wins, then we all win.

Time Flies!

I cannot believe that it is already November!!  The last few months have flown by!!  I feel like things are starting to settle, from the new city, new home, new job, etc and now maybe I can finally focus on this site a little more.  I will be attempting to make more posts (hopefully weekly!)  So let’s see what all there is to chat about…
